An Impressive Start To The Season For Liriano
Francisco Liriano pitched seven shutout innings and earned the victory in the Pirates' 1-0 win over the Cubs on Wednesday. Liriano has won each of his first three starts and allowed one or fewer run in each of them. Over the last 95 seasons, only one other Pirates pitcher has allowed as few as one run and earned a win in each of his first three starts of a season: Dave LaPoint, who did that in his first three starts with Pittsburgh after joining the team in a trade with the White Sox in August of 1988.

Liriano: Two Games And Two Wins For The Bucs
From Elias: Francisco Liriano, who beat the Mets in New York in his Pirates debut on Saturday, made it two wins in two games for Pittsburgh with a victory over the Brewers on Thursday night. Liriano is only the third pitcher in the last ten seasons to win the first two games of his Pirates career. The others were Jeff Karstens (2008) and Kevin Correia (2011).

Liriano Sparkles In Pirates Debut
From Elias: Francisco Liriano was a winner in his Pittsburgh debut: he struck out nine batters while allowing just one run over five and one-third innings as the Pirates rolled to an 11-2 win over the Mets. The last pitcher who earned a win with nine-or-more strikeouts in his first start with the Pirates was none other than Tim Wakefield, who fanned 10 in a 3-2 complete-game win over the Cardinals in his major-league debut back on July 31, 1992 - the last year that Pittsburgh finished with a winning record.
