The team took a bit of a leap of faith by signing Cabrera to a two-year, $16 million contract during the winter, despite the fact that the 28-year-old outfielder didn't play in a single game after Aug. 14 last season, serving a 50-game suspension for testing positive for elevated testosterone levels then being held out of the Giants' World Series championship run as a team decision.
