Such is the case with Capps. Joe Nathan began 2011 as the Twins' closer but was quickly replaced by Capps, as Nathan was not yet ready to resume his closing duties following Tommy John surgery. But remember, before Nathan was healthy enough to again assume the ninth-inning reins, the Twins were giving Glen Perkins save opportunities ahead of Capps. Capps' struggles were the result of a bloated 1.4 HR/9 in conjunction with a meek 4.7 K/9. Capps has flirted with gopheritis in the past, recording a whopping 1.7 HR/9 while with Pittsburgh in 2009. It goes without saying (but is going to be said nonetheless) that Capps needs to cut down on the dingers if he wants to succeed in the closer role this time around, as well as missing a few more bats.
