Bits: Zito getting the job done at home

I'm not quite sure how San Francisco Giants left-hander Barry Zito does it, since his stuff seems pretty average -- OK, perhaps below average -- but there he was on center stage Wednesday afternoon mowing down the Philadelphia Phillies at AT&T Park for seven innings of four-hit, one-run ball.

Uggla And Francisco Lead The Braves
Dan Uggla hit two homers and Juan Francisco hit a grand slam in the Braves' win over the Reds in Cincinnati. This was the third time since 2005 that the Braves had a game in which one player hit two homers while another hit a grand slam and all three were played in "The Queen City". Kelly Johnson (2 HR, 1 grand slam) and Andruw Jones (2 HR) did it on June 17, 2005; and Mark Teixeira (2 HR) and Brian McCann (slam) did it on August 20, 2007.

Braves Shred Herrera's Homerless Streak With 3-hr Barrage In 8th
From Elias: Jason Heyward, Justin Upton and Dan Uggla hit eighth-inning home runs off Kelvin Herrera, and the Braves broke a 2-2 tie and took down the Royals, 6-3. The thing is, coming into Tuesday's games, Herrera had not allowed a home run since Colby Rasmus connected off him last April 21; that span of 82 1/3 innings without having allowed a round-tripper had been the longest current streak by any pitcher in the majors. Upton's home run was his eighth in the Braves' 13 games this season. The last major-leaguer to hit eight homers over his team's first 13 games was Alex Rodriguez in 2007.
