ESPN STATS & INFORMATION
- The Tigers become the second team in MLB history to win a one-run game on the road in a winner-take-all game at Yankee Stadium, joining the 1926 Cardinals. The Tigers are also the first team to win a one-run winner-take-all postseason game on the road since the 2003 Red Sox won in Oakland.
- Jose Valverde struck out Alex Rodriguez to end the game. Rodriguez and Babe Ruth were the last outs of those respective one-run games; Ruth was caught stealing to end the 1926 World Series.
- Delmon Young hit his third home run of the series, the most by a Tigers player in a postseason series. Don Kelly and Young combined for the first back-to-back home runs in Tigers postseason history.
- The Yankees tied a postseason record by using seven pitchers in a winner-take-all game (done four times, and in all four instances the team lost). The Yankees also left 11 men on base, tying most they've ever had in a winner-take-all game, first done in an ALDS Game 5 against the Angels in 2005 in a 5-3 loss.
