Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said the decision was "Matt's call" as to whether he was fit enough to play in Game 4 Wednesday night. The Phillies lead the series 2-1.
"I'm good enough," Holliday said. "I can help the team in some way. That's all I'm trying to do."
Holliday has made only one appearance in the playoffs because of an inflamed tendon in his right middle finger, striking out as a pinch hitter to end Game 1.
La Russa said Holliday was in a lot of pain after the final swing, and he met with a specialist and underwent an MRI exam Monday.
