Power Rankings: Dodgers No. 1, but Rockies are rolling
ESPN.com
OK, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the No. 1 team in our MLB Power Rankings. We've repeated that sentence now for the past five weeks.
So it's time to celebrate the accomplishments of another NL West team, the blazing hot Colorado Rockies. A week ago the Rockies were about as low as a team can go; only the Washington Nationals were keeping the Rockies from the Power Rankings' basement. But under new manager Jim Tracy, the Rockies have ripped off 11 straight victories to make a meteoric, 13-spot rise in this week's Rankings, from No. 29 to No. 16. And they've done it with great pitching, allowing no more than four runs in any of the 11 games. Overall, they've outscored their opponents 73-28 during the streak.
Back to the top of the rankings, the Dodgers didn't have as much success as the Rockies last week, going 3-2, but it was good enough to stay No. 1. The Boston Red Sox moved up one spot to No. 2, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies at No. 3, the New York Yankees at No. 4 and the Texas Rangers at No. 5.
One of our panelists, Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com, wrote the comments below. Meanwhile, you can rank the teams yourself.
Tune in to "Baseball Tonight" every Monday on ESPN to see the week's U.S. Army Power Rankings. After going a perfect 7-0, the Rockies are the U.S. Army Team of the Week.
