DETROIT AT NY YANKEES, POSTPONED (RAIN)

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- The battle of first-place teams
will be delayed for another day.

Tuesday's series opener between the Detroit Tigers and New York
Yankees was postponed due to rain.

It will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on
Wednesday.

The Tigers (82-49) own the best record in the major leagues and
a five-game lead over Minnesota in the American League Central
Division.

The Yankees (77-52) have a seven-game lead over Boston in the AL
East.

Chien-Ming Wang (15-5), who is one win behind Toronto's Roy
Halladay for the major league lead in wins, was supposed to
start Tuesday for the Yankees against Nate Robertson (11-10).
Both of those pitchers will duel in the Wednesday afternoon
contest.

The night game will match New York's Jaret Wright (9-7) against
Wilfredo Ledezma (2-1).
