ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Braves didn't take long to shrug off
their lopsided loss.
Chipper Jones had a two-run single and Andruw Jones followed
with a two-run double in the first inning as the Braves bounced
back from their worst loss in three seasons with a 13-4 victory
over the Florida Marlins on Sunday.
"What happened yesterday is over with. It's about showing
people we can do it,'' Andruw Jones said.
"It was sort of the reversal of yesterday,'' Braves manager
Bobby Cox said. "We got all the hitting. We hit the ball hard all
day long. It felt good to get a lead early.''
Rafael Furcal went 4-for-5, scored two runs and drove in another
and Andruw Jones went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs as Atlanta
picked up only its second win in six games this season.
Braves rookie Horacio Ramirez (1-1) earned his first career win
in his second start. The left-hander went six innings and allowed
four runs -- three earned -- and six hits. He finished strong,
retiring eight Marlins in a row.
"I didn't have my best stuff but I held them off for six
innings,'' Ramirez said. "The first couple of innings I was having
problems for some reason, but I turned to my cutter (breaking ball)
after that and it got me out of some jams.''
Saturday's loss was the worst for the Braves since a 17-1 defeat
to Montreal on July 3, 2000.
Mike Lowell added a run-scoring single in the third and the
Marlins got within 6-4 with an unearned run in the fourth on three
Penny gave up six runs, eight hits and five walks in five
"I should never have given up six runs with the stuff I had
today,'' Penny said. "I was a little off in the first inning.
After that I settled down, came back and did pretty well. I've just
got to get that first inning out of the way.''
