Tigers' error aids White Sox rally

CHICAGO (AP) -- Joe Crede hit a game-ending three-run homer in
the 12th inning and the Chicago White Sox snapped the Detroit
Tigers' three-game winning streak with an 8-5 victory Sunday.

Carlos Lee hit his seventh career grand slam for the White Sox,
who salvaged the final game of a three-game series against the
worst team in the majors.

Chicago got some help from an error by third baseman Eric Munson
in the winning rally. With two outs and nobody on in the 12th, Tony
Graffanino hit a routine grounder to Munson, who overthrew first
baseman Carlos Pena for a two-base error.

Detroit decided to intentionally walk Paul Konerko, but Crede
made them pay for the move, connecting off Steve Sparks (0-1) for
his fourth home run of the season.

Gary Glover (1-0) pitched a scoreless 12th inning to earn the

Tigers starter Adam Bernero got into trouble in the fifth by
hitting Crede to lead off the inning. Joe Borchard followed with a
single to right and Bernero walked D'Angelo Jimenez to load the

Lee followed with his second grand slam of the season to left
field, giving the White Sox a 4-3 lead.

Jose Valentin walked, stole second in the sixth and later scored
on Borchard's sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 5-3.

Bernero allowed five runs and six hits in six innings. The
Tigers have lost all 10 of Bernero's starts.

White Sox starter Danny Wright pitched seven innings, giving up
three runs and six hits.

Kevin Witt and Munson both homered on back-to-back pitches from
Wright in the fourth inning, to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Dmitri
Young's RBI groundout made it 3-0 in the fifth.

The Tigers tied it with two runs in the eighth. Kelly Wunsch
gave up a lead off double to Bobby Higginson. Wunsch hit Young and
walked Pena on four straight pitches to load the bases with no

Tom Gordon relieved Wunsch and struck out Craig Monroe. Munson
hit a sacrifice fly and Andres Torres hit a pinch-hit RBI single to
tie it at 5.

Game notes
Chicago's Frank Thomas is 5-for-33 (.152) with runners in
scoring position and is in a 4-for-30 slump. ... Wunsch gave up his
first earned runs of the season in the eighth. He's made 18
