Vazquez allowed four hits through 7 2/3 innings and the
Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Vazquez, who came to Arizona as part of the Randy Johnson deal
with the Yankees, has a clause in his contract that allows him to
demand a trade after this season. If the demand is not met, he can
become a free agent.
"In the offseason I'll meet with my family and see what I want
to do," he said.
Chad Tracy was 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice in
Arizona's eighth victory in 13 games against the Dodgers. Alex
Cintron drove in two runs with a single for the Diamondbacks, while
Luis Gonzalez had a run-scoring single and Tony Clark added a
Vazquez (11-15) blanked the Dodgers until Jeff Kent hit his 28th
home run leading off the seventh. He struck out seven and walked

Vazquez called it "an up-and-down year. It's not what I wanted
but I think I've thrown more good games than bad games."

"His velocity was up again today," Melvin said. "I saw 96
[mph] up there once, a few 95s. There are very few guys in the
National League that will tell you they enjoy facing him."
Jose Valverde pitched the ninth for his ninth save.
The Diamondbacks jumped on Derek Lowe for three runs in the
first inning. Counsell and Tracy singled, then Gonzalez walked to
load the bases. Clark hit the sacrifice fly, then, after Troy Glaus
walked, Cintron drove in two more with the two-out hit.
"It definitely came down to Cintron's at-bat," Lowe said.
"Even though I threw an enormous amount of pitches there was still
an opportunity to get out of the inning."
Lowe (11-14) threw 50 pitches in the first inning and left after
three, matching his shortest outing of the season. Lowe, 3-0 in his
previous four starts, allowed three runs and six hits.
"It's tough for a whole team when a starting pitcher throws
that many pitches," he said. "It kind of takes the air out of
your balloon. When guys are standing out there for 90 pitches, it
kind of takes the whole momentum and puts it on their side, even
though it's only 3-0."
Arizona made it 4-0 in the fourth when Tracy doubled off Edwin
Jackson with two outs and Gonzalez bounced a single up the middle
to score him.
Vazquez retired nine straight before Kent homered to left on a
3-2 pitch to make it 4-1.
"Our bullpen was very impressive and they were all kids,"
Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said of the three relievers who allowed
one run and three hits in five innings. "We had the tying run at
the plate with two outs in the eighth. It would have been
interesting if we had got Jeff Kent up there with the bases loaded
and/or a run in. I've found myself mentioning that a few times this
