NEW YORK -- Phil Hughes was pumping 97 mph fastballs past the Tigers, striking out six in two innings before Mariano Rivera finished Detroit.

• Mark Teixeira's three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh off Joel Zumaya allowed the Yankees to erase a 3-2 deficit. It was Teixeira's first homer at Yankee Stadium since June 12 and part of a three-hit night.
• The top of the Yankee order (Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon, Teixeira) combined to go 7 for 13 and scored all five runs.
• Phil Hughes, who had six strikeouts in two innings, picked up his first career win as a reliever.
