Research Notes
How A's starter Gio Gonzalez beat the White Sox:
- Missed bats: Despite his sixth lowest strike percentage of the season, Gonzalez had his second highest miss percentage.
- Great curveball: When Gonzalez was able to command his curveball, it was unhittable. He threw 14 curves outside the strike zone and the White Sox swung at eight, missing on seven, which tied a season high. The only hit he allowed on his curve was on a pitch in the zone. Six of his seven strikeouts came on his curveball.
- Worked in: The White Sox stacked the lineup with righties, but Gonzalez wasn¿t afraid to come inside. He recorded a season-high 10 outs on inside pitches, including five of his seven strikeouts. |
