NEW YORK -- Yankees manager Joe Girardi was filling out his pitchers card for the week on Tuesday when it hit him: There would be no Mo.
The man at the top of the list now is David Robertson."Not to write Mo's name on the top, because I do it in a certain order, was really strange for me," Girardi said after the Yankees' 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. "So that was kind of like, 'OK, he's not coming out of the bullpen.' I can look at my card as much as I want, and he's not there. I think writing out that card probably made me realize that it's different now."More from ESPNNewYork.com
David Robertson's theme and style lack the punch of Mo's "Enter Sandman," but he got the job done Tuesday, writes Andrew Marchand. Story

Research Notes
Raul Ibanez homered.
He was 0-for-his-first-12 in his career against James Shields, but now has 2 HR in his last 4 AB against him. |
From Elias: With his HR Tuesday, Curtis Granderson has reached base in 28 consecutive games, the longest such streak in the major leagues this season.
He did so against a nemesis. Granderson entered the day 3-for-46 (.065) lifetime against James Shields. That's the lowest career batting average in any batter-pitcher matchup of at least 35 at-bats between any two active major-league players.
Granderson's HR came in his 3rd AB of the game, so he entered that AB 3-48 (.063) against Shields). |
