NEW YORK (AP) -- Mo Vaughn heard the boos.
He had gone 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts and made an error
that helped Florida go ahead in the six inning. Then he came to the
plate in the seventh after Roger Cedeno's infield hit had put New
Vaughn came through with a two-run single, and the Mets went on
to beat the Florida Marlins 7-4 Sunday.
"I'm here to drive in runs,'' said Vaughn, who leads the weak
Mets' offense with 11 RBI. "It was good to get a chance to do
that and come through.''
New York's most productive inning this season helped Art Howe
become the fifth active manager with 1,000 wins. Before this year,
he had managed Houston and Oakland.
"It's a nice milestone and I'm proud of that,'' Howe said.
An error by Vladimir Nunez (0-3) led to the big inning. Florida

"We have to play games where we don't beat ourselves,'' Marlins
manager Jeff Torborg said.
"It just proves that homers don't necessarily mean wins,'' Lee
New York came in with a league-low .228 average and tied with
Pittsburgh for the second fewest runs in the National League.
But the Mets matched their season high in runs and found a way
to keep Armando Benitez off the field -- by taking a four-run lead
into the ninth inning. On Saturday, the closer blew his fourth save
of the year in a 6-5 loss.
With the Marlins leading 3-2, Torborg lifted starter Josh Beckett, who allowed three hits and threw 107 pitches in six
After Wilson's first homer of the year tied the game, the Mets
played little ball. Rey Sanchez singled to left and Tom Glavine
(3-1) followed with a sacrifice bunt. Glavine reached safely on an
error when Nunez fell and wasn't able to make a play.
Michael Tejera came in and, after Roberto Alomar sacrificed the
runners over, Cedeno hit an RBI infield single that went about 30
feet up the first-base line and gave the Mets a 4-3 lead. Ty Wigginton then walked and Vaughn hit a two-run single to center.
Tsuyoshi Shinjo added an RBI groundout to make it 7-3.
Glavine allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings. David Weathers pitched a perfect eighth and Mike Stanton, in his first
appearance since injuring his calf in Puerto Rico on Monday,
allowed a solo homer to Gonzalez in the ninth.
Florida took the 2-0 lead in the fifth. Lee led off with his
fourth homer, just the second hit off Glavine. Gonzalez followed
with an infield single, was sacrificed to second by Beckett, and
scored on Juan Pierre's two-out single.
New York tied the score in the bottom half on Glavine's RBI
groundout and Cedeno's RBI single.
