CHICAGO (AP) -- Freddy Garcia is unbeatable this season when he
pitches during the day.
"I was throwing everything and they were working," Garcia
said. "I like pitching day games."
Garcia (12-11) easily handled the Tigers and appeared headed for
his first shutout of the season, but loaded the bases with one out
in the eighth before being replaced by Arnie Munoz, who gave up a
sacrifice fly to Dmitri Young.
"His velocity wasn't there (at first), but he ended up great,"
manager Ozzie Guillen said.
"I started kind of slow, but by the third inning I was warming
up and getting my pitches going so I saved the bullpen," Garcia
Munoz got four outs and Felix Diaz got the last out to complete
the six-hitter, the White Sox's second straight win after losing
six of eight.
Jeremy Bonderman (10-12) allowed four runs and six hits in six
innings in the loss. Bonderman had won four of his last five
"I felt like I threw the ball pretty well," Bonderman said.
Willie Harris scored in the first on a wild pitch by Bonderman
after being walked and stealing a base to give the White Sox a 1-0
Detroit loaded the bases in the third with one out on a walk to
Eric Munson, a bunt single by Jason Smith and an infield single by
Omar Infante. But Garcia got out of the jam by striking out Bobby
Higginson and Craig Monroe.
"You look back and that hurt. There is no question," Tigers
manager Alan Trammell said. "Who knows what might have happened,
but we needed to take advantage and at least score a run."
In the third, Harris struck out but reached on a wild pitch by
Bonderman and scored from first on a two-out double by Aaron
Rowand, giving the White Sox a 2-0 lead.
Konerko hit a solo homer in the fourth -- his 39th, second in the
AL to Manny Ramirez's 41.
"Hitting 40 home runs isn't something I set out to do,"
Konerko said. "It's a nice number to be known as a power hitter,
but my job is to drive guys in and be a tough out."
Konerko added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 4-0.
Lee homered off reliever Franklyn German after he walked Rowand
to lead off the seventh, making it 6-0.
Trammell will sit All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez two games
per week for the rest of the season. Rodriguez sat out Sunday after
catching extra-inning games Friday and Saturday. ... Rowand hit
.424 with five homers and 17 RBI against the Tigers this year. ...
Carlos Guillen wants to return this season to try to break
Trammell's record for RBI in a season by a Tigers shortstop with
