DENVER (AP) -- Josh Fogg walked out of the clubhouse wearing a camouflage T-shirt.
It was appropriate attire given the way he disguised his pitches during the Colorado Rockies' 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.Fogg, who relied heavily on a changeup, pitched seven innings, giving up seven hits and walking one.Fogg (7-5) was coming off a performance in which he pitched a two-hit shutout against Seattle last Friday. He threw just 91 pitches and faced the minimum 27 hitters in a game that took 1 hour, 52 minutes to complete, the fastest in franchise history."I was trying to carry over what I was doing against Seattle," Fogg said. What he did against Seattle was stay ahead of hitters. Fogg used the same approach against San Francisco."I faced two aggressive teams and I tried to use their aggressiveness against them," Fogg said. "I felt good out there."Before his last two outings, Fogg had given up 19 earned runs in his last five games. Manager Clint Hurdle said the change in Fogg was as simple as his mechanics."He's repeating his delivery," Hurdle said. "He's doing everything you want guys to do."As excited as Fogg was with his second win in a row, he was even more pleased with his performance at the plate. Fogg had an RBI single in the sixth for his first hit since July 31, 2005. It snapped an 0-for-39 stretch."I got the monkey off my back," Fogg said. "I helped the team offensively finally."Someone who continues to help the Rockies offensively is Todd Helton, who matched a team record by getting a hit or walk in his 35th straight game.Helton tied Larry Walker's team record -- set in 2002 -- with a single in the fifth. The last time Helton failed to get on base with a walk or hit was May 27 against San Francisco. He's hit safely in 20 of his last 24 games. With the win, Colorado remains tied for the lead in the NL West. The Rockies have also won five straight series, something they haven't done since 2000. It's also the fourth straight time they've won the rubber game of a series."We believe we're a good team," Fogg said. "Hopefully other teams will notice."After going 11 innings without giving up a run, Fogg's streak was snapped by Pedro Feliz's 15th home run of the season in the third. Fogg got his revenge by getting Feliz to ground out with two on in the fourth and fly out with the bases loaded in the sixth."He got two big outs on Feliz," Hurdle said.Ray King pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and then All-Star closer Brian Fuentes finished the ninth for his 16th save in 19 chances.Eliezer Alfonzo hit two homers for the Giants. He had solo shots in the seventh and ninth for his first multihomer game. Alfonso has five homers this season."It doesn't matter if I did anything in the game if we didn't win," Alfonso said.Every starter in Colorado's lineup had a hit."Forget the humidor," manager Felipe Alou said with a laugh. "Investigate their bats."Matt Holliday added to his major league-leading extra-base hits total with a solo home run in the second inning off Jamey Wright.
Holliday has 47 extra base hits, one ahead of Cleveland's Grady Sizemore. It was Holliday's 16th home run.The Rockies added three more runs in the second after Holliday's leadoff homer. Garrett Atkins walked, Brad Hawpe singled and Yorvit Torrealba hit an RBI single up the middle to score Atkins. Jamey Carroll followed with a two-out, two-run single to make it 4-0.Wright (5-8) hasn't won since May 22 against St. Louis. Wright, who was originally drafted by Colorado with the 28th overall pick in 1993, went six innings, giving up nine hits and five runs. Before the game, Barry Bonds' personal trainer, Greg Anderson, was held in contempt of court and taken to prison for refusing to testify to a federal grand jury investigation that's looking into Bonds for perjury.Bonds, who was 1-for-4 on Wednesday, had no comment.
Alou said the Giants plan to activate outfielder Moises Alou on Thursday. ... Ray Durham went 5-for-12 in the series and has hit in six straight games. ... The Giants had four players (Mark Sweeney 14, Alfonzo eight, Bonds one and Feliz one) account for all their putouts.
