CHICAGO -- Starlin Castro had a rough Thursday. His Friday was considerably better.
One day after misplaying a routine grounder that led to four unearned runs, Castro hit a home run and drove in the winning run with a double in the ninth inning to give the Chicago Cubs a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants.Game notes
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Thursday that San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin shouldn't play again until the injured Zack Greinke can pitch. When asked about Mattingly's comments before Friday's game, Bochy said "that's a great point." Quentin was later suspended eight games by Major League Baseball. ... Saturday's pitching matchup pits the Giants' Madison Bumgarner against Chicago's Jeff Samardzija. ... Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney was presented his 2012 Gold Glove prior to Friday's game. He is on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee laceration but is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against Texas. ... Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro was back in the lineup after getting a day off Thursday. He was 1-for-4. ... Usually a catcher, the Cubs' Steve Clevenger made his first career start as a third baseman.
