Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN

There is some speculation within the industry about a possible BOS/Cubs/Padres three-way blockbuster taking shape. Lots of pieces that fit.

Dodgers making moves -- but not big ones

L.A. picked up quality SPs Alex Wood and Mat Latos on Thursday. But Tim Kurkjian explains the Dodgers' reluctance to trade for aces Cole Hamels and David Price. And it had to do with an 18-year-old.

Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick

National League leaders in outfield OPS: 1) Harper, 1.153; 2) Stanton, .952; 3) Gerardo Parra, .886; 4) McCutchen, .880.

Report: Orioles getting Gerardo Parra

Baltimore has agreed to trade minor leaguer Zach Davies for Brewers OF Parra pending physicals, according to ESPN and multiple reports. Parra's in the midst of an MLB-best 14-game hitting streak. He would be the second outfielder dealt by Milwaukee in as many days (Carlos Gomez on Thursday).

Kurkjian: Yankees will be active today

"The Yankees are on the war path to try to find some pitching help. [Padres closer] Craig Kimbrel certainly is an option."

Jayson Stark @jaysonst

Adage to remember today (from one GM): Buyers make more mistakes than sellers because buyers are more emotional. Sellers are more rational

Teams talking to #WhiteSox say they're struggling with how impact of Cespedes or Upton would impact roster. Already overloaded at OF/DH/1B

American League bulks up on stars

With a few hours remaining before the trade deadline, the AL can take a bow. Troy Tulowitzki (Rockies to Blue Jays), Johnny Cueto (Reds to Royals), Carlos Gomez (Brewers to Astros) have all switched leagues and Cole Hamels (Phillies to Rangers) is reportedly next.

Baltimore outfielders vs. Gerardo Parra

Parra, reportedly headed to the Orioles, would offer an instant upgrade to the current crop of O's outfielders.

  • Orioles: .210 BA, .612 OPS, 25 RBIs
  • Parra: .328 BA, .886 OPS, 31 RBIs

As I tweeted last night, Ben Revere to the #Orioles is still in play. O's have nothing alive on Yoenis Cespedes, Justin Upton or Marlon Byrd

ICYMI: Ryan Rua hits inside-the-park HR

The Rangers outfielder used his legs to turn a line drive to center field into a four-bagger.

Keep your eyes on San Diego

What is Tim Kurkjian hearing on MLB trade deadline day? "The Padres are everywhere."

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN

Lots of corner outfielders still to be moved, but not a lot of buyers (NYM, CWS, BAL, maybe 1 or 2 others). Like a game of musical chairs.

Jayson Stark @jaysonst

Asked an exec talking to #Padres if they had time to trade about 8 guys today. Laughed & said: "Safe to say they'll be exceptionally active"

SportsCenter @SportsCenter

Crazy Stat of Day: 2 pitchers ever have completed calendar month with 50 K & ERA below 0.50. Clayton Kershaw tries to become No. 3 tonight.

Carlos Gomez with the quote of the week

Gomez's medical records contributed to the Mets-Brewers trade breaking down, according to reports. To that he said: "I don't have any [physical] problem. I've been playing. I feel sexy." The Astros agreed and traded for the OF.
