The next three games and four days could determine what Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto decides to do. They're three over .500. Win three and he may try and get Jay Bruce and pitching help; lose three and he may offer up Hisashi Iwakuma.

The Seattle Mariners are among the teams that have expressed interest in Cincinnati's Jay Bruce, who is likely to be on the move by Monday's trade deadline. Seattle has received middling production from Seth Smith, Nori Aoki and Franklin Gutierrez at the corner outfield spots this season, and Bruce would provide a major upgrade in 2017. He has a $13 million club option next season.

Huge standing ovation at Camden Yards as Orioles slugger Chris Davis bunts down the 3B line to beat the Rockies' shift. Hard to tell what the fans were most happy about - the shift-busting strategy, or that fact that the single broke an 0-for-24 slump for Davis.

Birthday boy Alex Rodriguez on still being on a major league roster: "When I first started to play this game, as a a young lad, I never thought I'd be playing in the major leagues for so long; especially at 41," A-Rod said. "I'm representing all the senior citizens." Rodriguez will start the game on the bench Wednesday for the fifth straight time.

Is Jim Harbaugh just Cubs fan tonight ... or perhaps an advisor? He and Theo Epstein chatted before Tuesday's Cubs-White Sox game at Wrigley Field. Harbaugh will dust off his old QB's arm to throw out the first pitch.

Alex Rodriguez on turning 41: "I'm getting old," Rodriguez said. "It makes you feel grateful, not a lot of 41-year-olds get to wear a baseball uniform every day. That's one. I definitely feel grateful for health, family, friends and just the opportunity to wear pinstripes."

The Milwaukee Brewers' trade talks involving Jonathan Lucroy have gained momentum, and it's looking more and more as if they'll move him by Monday's deadline. Cleveland, Houston and Texas are all in the mix for Lucroy, and at least three other clubs have expressed interest. It's almost time for general manager David Stearns to ask for everyone's best offer and make his call.

The Cardinals remain noncommittal about who will start for them Saturday in Miami, but they continue to call top prospect Alex Reyes' removal from a Triple-A start Tuesday as an emergency measure in case one of the in-house options is unavailable. The likeliest pitcher to start in an important game against the Marlins is reliever Tyler Lyons. "He's doing everything he can and needs to to earn that. We're still heavily considering him if all things work out right up to that point," Matheny said. The Cardinals envision Lyons as part of their rotation long-term, but they are carrying him in their bullpen because he is out of options.

Jay Bruce continues to hit home runs and his trade value continues to go up. His 25th home run proved to be the winning run in the Reds' 2-1 win over the slumping Giants. Bruce has always had a big home/road split, but he's hitting everywhere right now, which should make him an attractive option to the Dodgers, Mariners, Giants or Indians.
