Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is hopeful he can swing a bat on Thursday. On Wednesday, Gardner took a fastball off his right elbow. Even with a pad on the elbow, Gardner needed an X-ray on the elbow. It was negative. Gardner sounded more optimistic that he could be in the lineup sooner that manager Joe Girardi seemed to think.

The Yankees' CC Sabathia's troubles with alcohol came fully to light on the last weekend of 2015 season here in Baltimore. So it might feel a little extra special for Sabathia that his best performance of the 2016 has occurred at Camden Yards. Sabthia pitched seven scoreless innings and left with a 7-0 lead in the eighth on Wednesday. Sabathia's ERA dropped from 5.06 to 3.81. He has begun looking more comfortable as he has reconciled with his reduced velocity and more reliance on his change-up.
