Yanks GM: Teixeira out two more weeks

"His bone bruise has not healed in any way, shape or form," Brian Cashman said of Mark Teixeira. "It's taking a hell of a lot longer than we would have expected." Teixeira suffered a bone bruise on his right shin on August 17. He'll be on crutches for an undetermined period of time, and there is the possibility that he will not play again this season.

Hanley Ramirez done playing in outfield

"I think with how the young kids have been doing in the outfield, I think we want to give them the time there that they deserve," interim manager Torey Luvullo said of Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rusney Castillo. "The timing of Hanley's injury is pushing him back a little bit. ... Maybe in a week, he might come back and could be ready to play first base."

Cal Ripken Jr. threw out the first pitch at Camden Yards to mark the 20th anniversary of his breaking of Lou Gehrig's consecutive games streak. Ripken would go on to play 2,632 straight games. The longest current streak in MLB is 131 in a row.

Cubs call up top infield prospect Baez

Javier Baez will start at second base for Chicago tonight after hitting .324 at Triple-A this season, with 13 HRs and a .911 OPS in 70 games. The Cubs could use his presence at 2B, where they have struggled on offense:

  • Batting average: .227 (27th in MLB)
  • OPS: .612 (27th)
  • Home runs: 7 (T-22nd)
