Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is out of the lineup today against Arizona lefty Robbie Ray, but hold the hysteria. It's a day game after a night game and Lucroy is hitting .238 vs. left-handers this season, so it makes sense for Brewers manager Craig Counsell to rest him in favor of Martin Maldonado. There's a good chance Lucroy gets moved by Monday's deadline, but he's sitting today because it was a scheduled day off -- not because a trade is imminent.

According to a report by Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the Royals are trying to package Ian Kennedy to the Dodgers in a potential Wade Davis trade. Said one MLB exec: "I don't think anyone is taking Ian Kennedy's entire contract." Kennedy is owed about $65 million through the 2020 season. It makes sense for the Royals to try, but the initial response to the idea from Davis suitors appears to be underwhelming.

Terry Collins is not confident Jose Reyes will be able to return to the lineup on Friday, which had been the hope. Reyes suffered a strained intercostal muscle on his left side on Tuesday. "He was pretty sore last night when he left here," Collins said.

Terry Collins says the day off for Yoenis Cespedes is more than a prudent day off. The balky right quadriceps muscle has flared up. "My leg's pretty sore tonight," Cespedes told Collins late Wednesday. Collins said it's possible Cespedes' absence could last beyond one day.

Peter Bourjos probably bound for the DL, so I'd be surprised if the Phillies trade anyone but Jeremy Hellickson. Don't seem that motivated to move Jeanmar Gomez

Idea for one of Chris Sale's teammates: Hang a throwback jersey in his locker today, as he prepares to pitch. He'd laugh the loudest.
