Moore took a huge step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery today as he threw a live BP session before Tampa Bay's game. Moore, a promising LHP, debuted in 2011 and injured his left elbow at the beginning of last season.

Cardinals' Jordan Walden to DL

The setup man is headed to the 15-day DL with an inflamed right biceps. Walden is 0-1 with an 0.87 ERA through 12 games this season. He has 12 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings.

Hamilton to play in extended spring game

Josh Hamilton faced live pitching Saturday for the first time this season. The outfielder is scheduled to play an extended spring game Monday against the Royals. Pitcher Matt Harrison threw to Hamilton and said the former MVP "looked good."

Lorenzo Cain drops appeal

The Royals OF dropped the appeal of his two-game suspension -- for throwing a punch in the brawl with the White Sox -- after being told he had "zero" chance of winning. He will miss today's and Tuesday's games.

On May 3, 1936, Joltin' Joe made his MLB debut with the Yankees against the St. Louis Browns, going 3-for-6 with two singles and a triple. That Yankees team, which also starred Lou Gehrig, went on the win the World Series.
