On May 6, 1998, "Kid K" struck out 20 Astros in just his fifth career major league start in what is considered one of the greatest games ever pitched. He tied Roger Clemens' record for most strikeouts in a game -- and Wood was just 20 years old at the time.

John Axford's son to throw first pitch

The Rockies closer's 2-year-old son was bit on the foot by a rattlesnake in March and spent four weeks in the ICU. On Friday, Jameson will roll his wheelchair onto Coors Field to make the first pitch, and Axford said: "It'll put a smile on my face. ... Maybe tears in my eyes, too."

OTD: The Babe's first of 714 homers

Exactly 100 years ago today, baseball legend Babe Ruth was pitching for the Red Sox, batting 9th and facing the Yankees when he hit his first career home run -- a solo shot in the third. Oh, and he pitched 12 1/3 innings that day, too, but got the loss.
