Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer, who will make his MLB debut against the Twins on Friday, said it was an emotional moment when he was called into [Triple-A Toledo manager] Lloyd McClendon's office Wednesday night and informed he was being summoned by the big club: "I've been dreaming of this since I was four years old and playing T-Ball. This is the the second-best day of my life, besides my wedding — my wife will enjoy that -- No, it's a blessing, and I'm just so happy to finally achieve my goal, and hopefully I can compete well enough to stay up here."

It's windy in Phoenix today and the giant Arizona flag in center field at Chase Field got twisted around the flagpole. A stadium worker spent quite a while trying to snag it with a giant fish hook contraption from up on the catwalk, briefly enthralling a few of the Cardinals who were doing their long-tossing on the field. Manager Mike Matheny even walked out to get a better view. After about 15 minutes, he finally got it straightened out.

How is Bryce Harper making opposing teams pay for pitching around him? By running. "If I can get on first base and Davey Lopes tells me to go, then I'm going to go and get on second base or hopefully third base and it's exactly like hitting a double or a triple. That's how I gotta look at it." Of Harper's 5 SB's (T-3rd in NL), four have come after walks.

"When we get hot, it's scary," Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez said following Detroit's 7-3 win over Oakland on Thursday. Martinez, who recorded a hit and drew two walks, said teams used to be scared of coming into Detroit and that the Tigers want to make sure opponents feel that way again. Asked if he felt the past two games were indicative of what the team is capable of, when guys are swinging the bat well, Martinez said: "I think we're capable of more."
