The Padres have homered in 24 games in a row, just three short of tying the 27 games of the 2002 Rangers. And now Matt Kemp's 12th-inning homer has given them a 6-4 lead over Toronto. Since 2009, only Nelson Cruz and Brian McCann have more extra-inning home runs than Kemp's seven.

Another fun Ichiro fact: He's 21st on the all-time steals list since 1900 after swiping his 507th career base. His success rate of 81 percent ranks sixth among players with at least 400 career steals (for whom we have complete caught stealing data). Quick and efficient.

Orioles ace Chris Tillman tied a season-high by allowing six runs as Baltimore lost to Colorado 6-3 to snap a five-game winning streak. In each of his previous four starts, Tillman - who came in with a 14-2 record, a 3.18 ERA, and legit Cy Young buzz - had gone at least seven innings and allowed no more than one earned run.

The Cubs' Kris Bryant struck out in the eighth against James Shields, leaving him 1 for 10 with seven strikeouts in three games against Shields, according to ESPN Stats & Info. The Cardinals pulled their top pitching prospect, Alex Reyes, after three innings for Triple-A Memphis Tuesday. Such moves can raise eyebrows this time of year, but general manager John Mozeliak said the move was done as insurance if the Cardinals need a starter for Saturday's game in Miami. They plan on using lefty Tyler Lyons in that game, but might need to use Lyons in relief in the intervening days, in which case Reyes would make his major league debut vs. the Marlins.

Ichiro records career hit No. 2,997 leading off the eighth inning for the Marlins. Ichiro's run to 3,000 has been remarkable, given he was 27 when he got his first MLB hit. The player who holds the oldest debut age to get to 3,000 hits is Wade Boggs, who hadn't even turned 24.

The Cubs may have to hit one out to score on White Sox starter James Shields. According to ESPN Stats & Info, with the Cubs now 0 for 3 tonight with runners in scoring position, opposing hitters are now 0 for their last 31 in those spots against Shields.

Tigers put up four runs in the fifth inning against Steven Wright, chasing him from the game with out remaining in the frame. Robbie Ross Jr. in to pitch for Red Sox.

How hot is Jedd Gyorko (Yes, you read that right)? Not only has he homered in six of his last nine games, his seven homers since July 18 are the most in the majors and they have come over just 32 at-bats. "I don't think people realize how good a player he is," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said.
