Jim Caple: Battle of the bullpens

We're enjoying a pretty exciting game here. Giants led 1-0 in the first, the Royals came back to take 4-1 and now the Giants have slowly tied it up 4-4 after five. Great diving catch by Jarrod Dyson saves K.C. from falling behind. The bullpens will get a workout.

And we're tied at 4

With the bases loaded, Juan Perez hits a sinking liner to center field that Jarrod Dyson somehow catches. Hunter Pence comes home from third to tie things up at 4.

Hunter Pence's two-strike single to center scores Joe Panik from third to make it 4-3 K.C. Danny Duffy is on to pitch for Kansas City.

Jim Caple: Panda struggling

Pablo Sandoval is not having a big game. Panda struck out in the first inning and struck out wildly with two out in the third.

The Royals are the fifth team in World Series history to have their starting pitchers in each of the first 4 games of a World Series last fewer than 6 innings and the first since the 2002 Angels.

Jim Caple: Bochy makes right call

With two out and a runner on first, Bruce Bochy leaves in Yusmeiro Petit to bat. And it was the right move. One, he needed to get some innings from Petit. Two, Petit blooped in a single to center. He now has six hits in 104 major league at-bats, postseason and regular season.

The last three World Series hits by pitchers have all been by Giants -- Barry Zito in '12, Matt Cain in '10 and now Yusmeiro Petit tonight.

Jim Caple: More innings for Petit?

Yusmeiro Petit takes over for the Giants in the fourth inning and retires the side in order. The Giants need someone to burn up some innings and Petit is just the guy to do it.
