The 73-year-old fighting for Shoeless Joe

Arlene Marcley isn't a baseball fan. She doesn't know or care about the statistical benchmarks of a Hall of Fame player. She fell asleep the first time she watched "Field of Dreams." But no one has done more to clear the name of Joe Jackson, who remains banned from baseball and ineligible for the Hall of Fame. Story

Ripken: 2,632 consecutive can be broken

"People say it's an unbreakable record, but because I did it, somebody else can do it," Cal Ripken Jr. said of his record of 2,632 consecutive games. "To me, if one person figures it out that they can play 162 and they can finish really strong in September, then they've answered the question. Then it's just a matter of doing it over and over again until you get to that point. So yes, I think it can be broken. I don't know who, though."

Orioles honor Ripken on anniversary

Cal Ripken Jr. threw out the first pitch at Camden Yards to mark the 20th anniversary of his breaking of Lou Gehrig's consecutive games streak. Ripken would go on to play 2,632 straight games. The longest current streak in MLB is 131 in a row.

A-Rod is probably not wild about wild card

All 14 of ESPN's experts have the Blue Jays winning the AL East. But the good news for Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees is that all of them have them in a fear-inducing one-game wild-card playoff. Picks

Rockies turn triple play in 9th

With Paul Goldschmidt at the plate, the Diamondbacks sent the runners on 1st and 2nd on the pitch. That worked out very well ... for the Rockies, who ended the inning in an instant.
