Indians win big over Royals, 12-1

The Royals had to piece together a run in the top of the 9th to avoid their worst shutout loss since 2006 (13-0 vs. Cleveland). Corey Kluber threw a complete game, 5-hitter and six Indians had 2 or more hits. Box score

Dodgers not done after Latos deal

Jim Bowden on the reported deal that sends Mat Latos from the Marlins to L.A.: "The Dodgers got a really good 4th starter. They’re still going to try to go get Hamels or Gallardo ... but [Latos] is going to help them down the stretch."

Latos dealing since DL stint

Mat Latos has been about a replacement-level pitcher this season, but he's been much better since a DL stint due to a knee issue, with a 2.69 ERA over his past seven starts after coming off the DL. His fastball velocity has been up 1 mph in the past two months as well. Good pickup for the Dodgers as the back-end starters haven't been going deep into games. (via David Schoenfield)

What it would take to get Cole Hamels

The Phillies' ace has the most value of any player believed to be on the market. And though the Johnny Cueto deal set the market price for No. 1 starters, the difference between Cueto and Hamels is that Cueto is merely a two-month rental. 5 potential deals (Insider)

Storen not thrilled with Papelbon add

Jonathan Papelbon is a National, and not everyone is happy. Said newly demoted closer Drew Storen: "All I'm going to say is that I'm aware of the move and I've talked to [GM] Mike [Rizzo] about it and talked to my agent and we've had some ongoing discussions and until those have progressed I'm going to leave it at that and no comment for now."

Teams calling about Braves' Jim Johnson

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports Atlanta is getting a lot of calls on Johnson, who has a 2.25 ERA and is only making $1.6M this season. Crasnick also tweets the Braves "are also fielding some calls on A.J. Pierzynski and Jonny Gomes. Battled-tested, stretch drive acquisition types. Johnson is the most likely of the three to be moved this week. Then Pierzynski, then Gomes."

Cubs catch Reyes stealing

Newly acquired Jose Reyes debuted for Colorado with a first-inning single. However, when he tried to take advantage of Jon Lester's highly publicized issue with holding runners on by stealing second base, catcher David Ross easily threw him out. Follow live

Corey Kluber finally getting support

The Indians have scored 8 runs (and counting) for Kluber and it's well overdue: Entering today's game against the Royals, the Indians had scored an average of 2.61 runs per game in Kluber's starts this season, fewest among all qualified starters. Follow live
