The Milwaukee Brewers have signed infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to a one-year deal, his agent, Alex Esteban, told ESPN.com.

Betancourt opted out of his contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. He hit .447 in 18 games with the Phillies this spring with a .451 on-base percentage and .574 slugging percentage.

Betancourt, 31, was the Brewers' starting shortstop in 2011 before spending last season with Kansas City. Milwaukee has been looking for infield depth, particularly a veteran who could back up rookie shortstop Jean Segura.
