Ted Turner sees green (space)

ATLANTA -- Ted Turner says he's shocked the Atlanta Braves are moving out of the ballpark named after him in downtown Atlanta.

But he told The Associated Press in a recent interview that if Turner Field has to be demolished, he'd like to see the area become green space.

The team announced last month that it'll move into a new 42,000-seat, $672 million stadium complex in Cobb County in 2017.

Immediately afterward, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said Turner Field would be torn down to make way for a large-scale development.

But city spokeswoman Melissa Mullinax says officials have yet to make final plans for the area.

Turner Field was built for the 1996 Summer Olympics before being converted into a baseball park that opened in 1997.
