Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez took practice swings for the first time this offseason Monday and didn't report any pain from a sprained middle finger that sidelined him for the final two months of 2013.

The Denver Post said Gonzalez, who opted not to have surgery, took 50 swings off a batting tee at Coors Field and plans on more swings later this week.

"It's getting stronger. It felt really good," Gonzalez told the Post. "No issues. I am happy with how it feels."

Gonzalez, 28, batted .302 with 26 home runs and 70 RBIs this past season despite playing in just 110 games. He has been slotted as the Rockies' starting center fielder after the team traded Dexter Fowler last week.
