The Washington Nationals agreed to a one-year deal with ace Stephen Strasburg on Friday, avoiding arbitration.

The right-hander will earn $3.975 million, plus performance bonuses.

Strasburg, 25, was 8-9 with a 3.00 ERA in 30 starts last year for the Nationals in his first full season since undergoing Tommy John surgery. He struck out 191 in a career-high 183 innings.

He underwent surgery in October to remove bone chips in his elbow, and the team expects him to be ready for spring training.
