PHOENIX -- Cincinnati Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto pitched long into a minor league game Tuesday afternoon after being scratched last week from a scheduled start due to shoulder soreness.

Cueto seems to be on track for the Red's opener, though manager Bryan Price stopped short of saying Cueto will get the nod.

"Johnny's going to be ready to make the Opening Day roster, for sure," Price said.

Cueto was scratched because of a sore back Thursday, giving Cincinnati another concern about its pitching staff.

Cueto was skipped on the same day closer Aroldis Chapman was having surgery for fractures above his left eye and nose after he was struck by a batted ball Wednesday night.

Another starter, Mat Latos, is recovering from knee surgery.

Left-handed reliever Sean Marshall is scheduled to throw live batting practice on Wednesday as he deals with a sore left shoulder.
