Diamondbacks recall Didi Gregorius

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled infielder Didi Gregorius from Triple-A Reno and placed infielder Cliff Pennington on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained ligament in his left thumb.

Gregorius was with the Diamondbacks all of last season but lost the starting shortstop job to rookie Chris Owings in spring training. He was hitting .310 with 14 doubles, three home runs and 42 runs scored in 57 games with Reno.

He is tied for second in the PCL in runs, third in hits, and tied for third in triples. Gregorius started 38 games at second base and 19 at shortstop for the Aces.
