Jack McKeon's made (what?) decision
MIAMI -- Florida Marlins manager Jack McKeon says he has made a decision about his future beyond this season but hasn't talked with the organization about whether he will return in 2012 at age 81.
McKeon said Friday if he doesn't come back as manager, he would like to remain with the franchise in some role. He worked part time as a special assistant to team owner Jeffrey Loria before becoming manager in June after Edwin Rodriguez resigned.
The Marlins are expected to hire a new manager for next season, when they will move into a new ballpark with an increased player payroll and higher expectations.
"I haven't talked to anybody," McKeon said. "If I decide I don't want to come back, or they decide they don't want me back, then I would kind of hope I'd stay with them in some capacity."
Florida began a weekend series against Philadelphia in last place in the NL East, with a record of 28-36 since McKeon took over.
"I still enjoy what I'm doing," he said, "but you'd like to have better results."
McKeon's the second-oldest manager in major league history. Connie Mack managed the Philadelphia Athletics at age 87.
