Phils' Kyle Kendrick avoids arbitration

PHILADELPHIA -- Right-hander Kyle Kendrick and the Philadelphia Phillies avoided salary arbitration when they agreed Friday to a one-year contract worth $3,585,000.

Kendrick was 8-6 with a 3.22 ERA in 15 starts and 19 relief appearances last year, when he made $2.45 million. He set career bests in ERA and games. The 27-year-old is 43-30 with a 4.41 ERA in five seasons in Philadelphia. He's started 98 of the 127 games he's pitched.

The Phillies have three remaining players eligible for arbitration: left-hander Cole Hamels, right fielder Hunter Pence and infielder Wilson Valdez.
