GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Veteran infielder Cristian Guzman has been released by the Cleveland Indians, who also reassigned outfielder Fred Lewis to their minor league camp.
Both were non-roster invitees to camp and neither had a good spring. Guzman batted .217 with no extra-base hits in 10 games before straining a hamstring. Lewis hit .200 with one double in nine games. Neither drove in a run.
Guzman, 34, missed all of 2011 with a sore shoulder.
Cleveland still has 41 players in its major league camp.
