Jeremy Hellickson out of hospital
Manager Joe Maddon said after the game the 25-year-old Hellickson was doing fine. Maddon had been optimistic earlier, saying Hellickson was not bleeding and did not lose consciousness.
The Rays announced later Wednesday that Hellickson had returned to the ballpark and was OK after a battery of tests. He is scheduled for more tests on Thursday.
Hellickson is scheduled to start Saturday at Boston, and the team plans to wait and see how Hellickson responds to a night's sleep before deciding whether he'll pitch that day. He was throwing a bullpen session while the Tigers were taking batting practice when he was hit.
Hellickson pitched 8 2/3 scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday.
