Dylan Bundy's no-hit streak ends
SALISBURY, Md. -- Baltimore Orioles minor leaguer Dylan Bundy's incredible season-opening hitless streak ended Monday night, when he allowed a first-inning single in the Delmarva Shorebirds' game with the Asheville Tourists.
South Atlantic League hitters were 0-for-39 with a walk against Bundy before Asheville center fielder Delta Cleary Jr. lined a base hit to left field leading off Monday's game. Cleary was promptly erased on a line-drive double play.
Bundy threw four scoreless innings against Asheville to extend his shutout streak to 17 innings this season. He has 25 strikeouts and two walks, and opponents are hitting .020 (1-for-50) against him.
Bundy, a 19-year-old Oklahoma native, signed with Baltimore for a guaranteed $6.25 million as the fourth overall pick in Major League Baseball's 2011 first-year player draft. In February, ESPN's Keith Law ranked him as the 11th best prospect in the game. Bundy was Law's fourth-ranked pitching prospect behind Tampa Bay's Matt Moore, St. Louis' Shelby Miller and Pittsburgh's Gerrit Cole.
