Blake Beavan may miss start
SEATTLE -- Blake Beavan is a "longshot" to make his scheduled start on Sunday for the Seattle Mariners, but manager Eric Wedge wouldn't rule out the possibility.
Wedge said Wednesday that Beavan won't throw until Friday. Beavan had to leave his start on Monday night after getting hit in the arm by a Miguel Cabrera line drive. Wedge said Beavan could get pushed back a couple of days and either Kevin Millwood or Jason Vargas could start on regular rest on Sunday against the New York Yankees because the Mariners are off on Thursday.
Wedge also said center fielder Franklin Gutierrez is being sat down for a few days after plantar fasciitis in his foot flared up. Gutierrez is fully recovered from the pectoral injury that landed him on the disabled list to start the season. But the foot problems have slowed his recovery. He is in Seattle being examined by the Mariners' training staff.
