CINCINNATI -- The Pittsburgh Pirates called up outfielder Alex Presley for the start of their series against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, installing him as the leadoff hitter.
Pittsburgh optioned Gorkys Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis. Hernandez was called up on May 18 and batted .200 in nine games.
Presley was sent to Indianapolis on May 16 after batting .220 with two homers. Manager Clint Hurdle said he had showed a lot of improvement at the plate recently, prompting the move.
