Jack Hannahan activated from DL
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians have activated third baseman Jack Hannahan from the 15-day disabled list for the start of their interleague series with Pittsburgh.
Hannahan, who had been out since May 28 with a strained left calf, is in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Pirates. Hannahan also missed time earlier this season with a lower-back issue. This was his first career trip to the DL.
To make room for Hannahan, the Indians optioned left-hander Scott Barnes to Triple-A Columbus. He pitched in four games with Cleveland.
Indians manager Manny Acta said Hannahan will not play every day as he slowly works his way back. Lonnie Chisenhall also will get playing time at third.
Hannahan is batting .276 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 31 games.
