Troy Tulowitzki out at least 6 weeks
Tulowtizki had scar tissue removed from the groin area during the procedure which was performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia.
"We know that he has peace of mind in knowing that what it was that he was dealing with is now fixed, and the time frame is not longer than initially anticipated after doing the tests and looking at MRIs and things like that," Colorado manager Jim Tracy said. "We're very encouraged in relation to the news that we got."
It was initially believed that Tulowitzki would miss at least eight weeks.
Tulowitzki was injured May 30 against Houston, pulling up after running out an infield grounder. He took himself out of a Triple-A game on June 13 after feeling not quite right.
Tulowitzki has won the Gold Glove, Silver Slugger Award and gone to the All-Star Game each of the last two years. He was batting .287 with eight homers and 27 RBIs. The Rockies have struggled mightily in his absence, losing 12 of their last 13 games.
"Like any club, we are built around our best players," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd told the Denver Post. "Even if we were having an average year rather than a bad year, losing him would be problematic."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
