LOS ANGELES -- Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart was struck flush on the helmet by a pitch from Chad Billingsley of the Dodgers in the fifth inning Monday night and left the game under his own power.
Billingsley retired the first two batters in the inning before hitting Cozart with his next pitch. Cozart held his head with both hands while lying on his stomach for several anxious moments, and a trainer came out to examine him. Wilson Valdez ran for Cozart and took his place in the field.
Cozart, who had two of Cincinnati's four hits at the time of the beaning, is batting .250 in 75 games with 16 RBIs and eight home runs. Billingsley has hit five batters, the most on the Los Angeles staff.
