Twins put Trevor Plouffe on DL
MINNEAPOLIS -- Trevor Plouffe has been scratched from the Minnesota Twins' lineup and placed on the disabled list after aggravating a right thumb injury during batting practice before a game against the Cleveland Indians.
Alexi Casilla was inserted into the lineup at second base, and Jamey Carroll moved to third for Friday's game. Plouffe hasn't played since he hurt the thumb during a July 20 game against Kansas City.
Danny Valencia, who was replaced by Plouffe at third base early in the season, is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday. Valencia hit .250 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs since joining Rochester on May 10.
Plouffe, second on the Twins with 19 home runs, is having a breakout season. He homered in four straight games from June 12-15 and was hitting .328 over 17 games before getting hurt.
