HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have promoted right-hander Armando Galarraga from the minors to start Saturday night against Pittsburgh as they try to stop a team-record-matching 11-game losing streak.
The Astros purchased Galarraga's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Houston also claimed infielder-outfielder Steve Pearce off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. Pearce will join the team on Sunday.
Left-handed pitcher Fernando Abad was optioned to Triple-A. The Astros outrighted right-handers Enerio Del Rosario and Aneury Rodriguez to Oklahoma City.
