TORONTO -- Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista was held out of the lineup against Boston for a second straight day Saturday because of a sore right ankle, while right-hander Dave Bush was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo and right-hander Jeremy Jeffress was designated for assignment.
A two-time major league home run leader, Bautista twisted an ankle beating out a double play in the eighth inning of Thursday's 10-8 win over Cleveland. Rajai Davis made his second straight start in right field.
Jeffress was let go one day after he allowed one run in one inning of a 6-4 loss. Jeffress gave up a homer to his first hitter, Will Middlebrooks.
Drafted by the Blue Jays in 2002, Bush is 56-69 with a 4.70 ERA in 210 games with Toronto, Milwaukee and Texas.
