MRI: Knee sprain for Carlos Gomez
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez had an MRI on Friday and is day to day with a sprained right knee after making a leaping catch at the wall.
Gomez hobbled around on crutches before Milwaukee's game against Cincinnati. Manager Ron Roenicke said he'll have a better idea in the next few days of when the All-Star will return to the lineup.
"Tomorrow or the next day we'll be able to make a call on that," Roenicke said. "I'm hoping he doesn't need" to be placed on the disabled list.
Gomez raced to the wall during the fourth inning of Thursday night's 2-1 loss to Cincinnati and robbed Brandon Phillips of a hit. But he crashed awkwardly to the ground with his knee bent under his body and his hip hit the base of the wall.
Gomez is hitting .288 with 18 homers, 55 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 114 games.
Reliever Alfredo Figaro was sent down to make room on the roster. Figaro is 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA in 26 games. He last pitched on Aug. 9 at Seattle.
